A Discourse

Gram Seva Sangh is launching a sathyagraha for the rejuvenation of the sacred economy. By sacred economy we mean that system of production which provides maximum employment to people, with the least investment. By least investment we mean both natural and financial. We actually mean the rejuvenation of nature and economy both, through this measure.
Monster Economy is dying
The system that prevails today is the opposite of the sacred. It is a monster economy, monster both in nature and in size. And it is dying .And it is taking the eco system along with it. It is high time that we revived the sacred.
Instead, governments the world over are using tax payer’s money to revive the monster. What a shame! While agriculture is in deep crisis, when weavers and crafts people are leaving their professions, and the poor are leaving villages in hordes, the government is reviving the monster! Yes! The Government is bailing out the automobile sector, writing off big debts of bad banks, and is giving liberal concessions to all the big bad sectors.
But the biggest shame is that they are changing the meaning of the sacred in order to do this. They are systematically pushing a combination of, the priestly class, the monster economy and the political class, as the sacred. They, in essence, are pushing a separatist ideology a caste system and a sexist theology.
The sathyagraha shall bring moral pressure on the people to consume less. And to consume those products that can be termed sacred under our definition. We shall bring a similar moral pressure on all governments to invest public resources, wherever and whenever possible, towards the strengthening of the sacred economy.
The sacred cannot be a dividing line
We know that. We, for example, do not want to divide the handmade from the machine made. The sacred economy is a scale and not a dictate. Handmade sits at the top of the scale. But, it shall be followed by those products that employ the most number of people to do them, as also do the least damage to nature.
Sacred Economy makes a lot of sense
GDP need not scare us. May be, Sacred economy is less profitable, May be it grows slowly. But it makes a lot of sense to live inside it.
Join the discourse to revive the sacred economy!
