ರಾಮಾಯಣದ ಸುಂದರ ಭಾಗಗಳೆಲ್ಲ ಇರುವುದು ಕಾಡೊಳಗೆ. ಹಾಗಂತ ರಾಮಾಯಣವು ಕಾಡಿನ ಕತೆಯಲ್ಲ, ನಾಡಿನ ಕತೆಯದು, ಸಭ್ಯತೆಯ ಕತೆ, ರಾಮನ ಕತೆ. ಸಭ್ಯತೆಯ ಕತೆಯೊಂದನ್ನು ಕವಿಯು ಹೀಗೆ ಕಾಡೊಳಗೆ ಅದ್ದಿ ಇರಿಸಿರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಲವಾದ ಕಾರಣಗಳಿವೆ. ಸಭ್ಯತೆಗೆ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯೊಟ್ಟಿಗಿನ ಸಖ್ಯ ಅತ್ಯಗತ್ಯ ಎಂದು ಸಾರಬೇಕಿದೆ ಮಹಾಕವಿಗೆ.
ಕಾಡಿನ ಸಖ್ಯ ಕಳಚಿದಾಗ ಸಭ್ಯತೆಗಳು ಅತಿರೇಕದ ರೋಗಕ್ಕೆ ಪಕ್ಕಾಗುತ್ತವೆ, ಅತಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಟ್ಟಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತವೆ; ಸ್ಥಾವರಗಳು ಅತಿಯಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯತೊಡಗುತ್ತವೆ, ಕಾನೂನುಗಳು ಅತಿಯಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯತೊಡಗುತ್ತವೆ, ಮಂದಿರಗಳು ಅತಿಯಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯತೊಡಗುತ್ತವೆ, ಹಿಂಸೆ ಅತಿಯಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯತೊಡಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಸಭ್ಯತೆಯೇ ಒಂದು ರೋಗವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಣಮಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ ರಾಮಾಯಣ.

ರಂಗಕರ್ಮಿ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ ರವರು ಈ ಅಂಕಣ ಬರೆದ ನಂತರ ಇಲ್ಲಿಯವರೆಗೆ ತಾವು ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ “ಸರಳ ರಾಮಾಯಣ” ದ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯವನ್ನು ಬರೆದಿದ್ದು. ಅವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇದರ ಮುಂದುವರೆದ ಚರ್ಚೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಇದನ್ನು ಒಂದು ನಾಗರೀಕತೆಯ ಕಥೆಯಾಗಿ ನೋಡಿದಾಗ ನಾವು ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಯಂತ್ರನಾಗರಿಕತೆಯ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳ ಬಗೆಗೆ ನಮಗೆ ಹೊಸ ಹೊಳಹುಗಳು ಮೂಡಲಿವೆ!
